About this site and Knowledge Management

This site is a result of a graduate student class project and learning experience in the field of Knowledge Management. The creation and development of the site incorporates the tacit knowledge of classes from three semesters, represented by individual and group experience. Explicit knowledge that the site provides includes case studies (papers) on the design and planning of knowledge management systems within various organizations.

Knowledge is the dynamic repository of what we learn. This repository is formed, as Thomas Davenport and Laurence Prusak suggest, through continuous shared experiences, values, information, and observations. It may be explicit, as in books or intranet content, or it may be implicit as in relationships and processes that may not be documented. Knowledge Management , then, can be defined as the application and usage of the overall, collective knowledge repository that an organization utilizes to create business value.

Knowledge Management is important, and is key to business growth when full utilization of the organization’s knowledge base, coupled with each individual skills, competencies, thoughts, and innovations enable the company to generate increased business value, creating competitive advantage.
